RIVER ROAD CULVERT REPLACEMENT
CONTRACT ADMINISTRATION
The culvert replacement on River Road over the Elizabeth Warren Drain in Carmel Indiana included the clearing and removal of the existing structure; installation of caissons and a structural cap over existing twin 36 inch diameter, concrete water mains; installation of express footings (precast); installation of 105 LF of 12 FT wide x 10 FT high concrete culvert with over 100 LF of precast wing wall on each end; with steel railing installed on top of the wing walls. Included was reconstruction of the existing roadway, signage and pavement markings.
VS contracted with the City of Carmel as the project representative for the construction phase of the culvert replacement project. Full-time inspection staff consisted of one Project Engineer/Supervisor and one Inspector as needed.
VS primary responsibilities during construction included:
- Daily inspection of contractor’s work to assure conformance with plans and specifications
- Reporting and documenting materials received, including verification of approved sources and acceptance
- Written daily reports
- Tracking progress of work on a unit price basis for contractor pay vouchers
- Maintaining files of all work item invoices and weight tickets
- Regular interaction with the contractor for clarification and interpretation of contract requirements
- Assurance of proper and safe maintenance of traffic measures during on-going construction
- Availability to the public to answer questions and concerns
- Final Project accounting and close-out
